THE SEVEN-MEMBER COMMISSION, APPOINTED BY THE MAYOR AND CONFIRMED BY THE CITY COUNCIL, IS RESPONSIBLE FOR SELECTING THE POLICE CHIEF AND OVERSEEING HPD'S RULES, REGULATIONS, AND BUDGETS.
COMMISSION MEMBERS SERVE ON A VOLUNTEER BASIS AND RECEIVE NO COMPENSATION.
THE SEARCH FOR A NEW CHIEF BEGAN AFTER JOE LOGAN STEPPED DOWN LAST JUNE.

DAVID LAZAR IS A SENIOR LAW ENFORCEMENT LEADER WITH 33 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE WITH THE SAN FRANCISCO POLICE DEPARTMENT, WHERE HE SERVED AS ACTING CHIEF OF POLICE AND ASSISTANT CHIEF OF OPERATIONS.
HE HAS HAD EXTENSIVE COMMAND EXPERIENCE IN POLICE OPERATIONS, INVESTIGATIONS, FIELD OPERATIONS, PUBLIC SAFETY TECHNOLOGY, AND PUBLIC TRUST-BUILDING.
MIKE LAMBERT IS A LONGTIME LAW ENFORCEMENT LEADER WITH MORE THAN 20 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE SERVING WITH THE HONOLULU POLICE DEPARTMENT AND AS THE CURRENT DIRECTOR OF THE HAWAII DEPARTMENT OF LAW ENFORCEMENT.
